bt365体育在线At Stanley Black & Decker, our commitment to sustainability efforts are critical to the way in which we operate, particularly with regard to climate, waste and water.
bt365体育在线Our 2030 targets of becoming better than carbon neutral (what we call carbon positive), achieving zero waste to landfill and sustainable water use across our operations reflects our long-standing commitment to make a lasting, positive change for our communities and the world we share.
U.N. Sustainable Development Goals
bt365体育在线Sustainability is a fundamental part of our culture. We work actively toward cleaner water, minimizing waste generation, landfilling and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions—goals we urge our people and partners to share.
"Our sustainability strategy no longer simply seeks to reduce negative impact, but to positively impact the environment through our operations."
Deb Geyer, Corporate Responsibility Officer
ACTIONS TO 2030 GOAL**
Go Beyond Carbon Neutral Operations (Carbon Positive)
By 2030, we plan to have reduced our operational carbon emissions to zero and eliminate additional emissions through means of carbon capture, such as carbon removal technologies.
Sustainable Water Use
bt365体育在线We aim to use water sustainably wherever we do business. We are identifying water risks and setting context-based targets that address site-specific concerns in each river basin, a key consideration due to localized water availability and risk.
Zero Waste to Landfill
We continue to work towards achieving zero waste to landfill (ZWTL) across our daily, direct operations (one-off construction and other events may be excluded). We encourage waste minimization, reuse and recycling in all instances.
**Note - Our 2030 CSR Carbon | Water | Waste goals exclude those Factory Outlets | Service Centers | Offices where we are unable to directly influence the purchase of energy, water, and disposal of waste.
Carbon Positive Across Our Operations by 2030
As part of our Science Based Target commitment, we seek to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions 100% by 2030, using a 2015 base year, then moving to carbon positivity, meaning our carbon capture is greater than our carbon emission.
bt365体育在线"A strong commitment to corporate social responsibility is the right thing to do, and is an imperative for companies dedicated to doing their part to help the world grow and thrive. Certification from the Science Based Targets initiative helps give us confidence that the aggressive and aspirational goals we are setting for our company with our new 2030 global CSR plan are putting us on a path to making a difference and creating a more sustainable world."
Jim Loree, President & CEO
Zero Waste to Landfill Across our Operations by 2030
More than 60 of our manufacturing and distribution sites have now achieved zero waste to landfill status, exceeding our original target of 50 sites by end of year 2019. Through management system enhancements, third-party support and assurance, together with sharing of best management practices, we have line of sight to hit our 2020 target of 70 sites.
*Approved through internal governance management system. Sites who declared ZWTL status in 2019 could have previously sent waste to landfill up to the date of declaration.
MFG/DC sites to become ZWTL by the end of 2021
Sustainable Water Use
To reach sustainable water use, we are partnering with the World Wide Fund for Nature (also known as the World Wildlife Fund in the U.S. and Canada), to help determine site-based contextual water targets, through a customized water basin and operational water risk analysis. These targets address site-specific concerns in relevant river basins—an extremely important approach given that water availability and risks are highly localized. Consulting with the WWF to adapt and deploy their modified Water Risk Filter (inclusive of the updated 2019 WRI Aqueduct data) is helping to identify relevant sites in regions with identified water risk. Our relationship continues to strengthen as we look to elevate water concerns across our diverse global enterprise.
